Melanie Philips of the Daily Mail Attacks Gay Equality

On 24 January 2011, Melanie Philips' article, "Yes, gays have often been the victims of prejudice. But they now risk becoming the new McCarthyites", was posted on the Daily Mail website.

Although the Daily Mail has a history of posting homophobic articles (such as infamous Stephen Gately article from Jan Moir), Melanie Philips has truly outdone herself by penning this sickening article.

Apocryphal, badly researched, badly sourced, composed primarily of unfounded arguments, Melanie Philips has sunk to a new 'journalistic' low. The Daily Mail must retract this article and apologise for its publication that attacks gay equality as a ruthless agenda which aims to destroy so-called normal sexual behaviour.

According to the PCC Code of Conduct:

"Accuracy

i) The Press must take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information, including pictures.

iii) The Press, whilst free to be partisan, must distinguish clearly between comment, conjecture and fact.

Discrimination

i) The press must avoid prejudicial or pejorative reference to an individual's race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation or to any physical or mental illness or disability."

Clearly, Melanie Philips' article violates these clauses.
