Jskychat Exclusive: How I Saved My Face

My face is far albeit the finished article, but those of you who knew me through my University years often ask me how the quality of my skin has improved so much. My face used to be like the Himalayas. I was using a product I trusted would help improve my acne. I was to learn years later by chance that this product contained ingredients (such as hydroquinone) that are extremely dangerous and harmful to the skin.

It was 2006. My skin was getting worse. I knew I was to blame but it felt like I had tried everything. I was secretly at my wits end. There were times I would swerve nights out because I didn't want my picture taken, whereas on the flipside I would binge to the extreme on cheap alco-pops that coupled with my mixed emotions and lifestyle would make my skin worse. The truth was, as much as I tried to mask it, my face was not only a reflection of how I was treating it, but how I was feeling.

When black skin is damaged by acne, cuts or bruises, dark marks are left which can often take a long period of time to fade. It is easy to become negged out when confronted by the mirror but the most important thing to remember is that we are all a work in progress and no one is in fact the finished article. I visualised what I wanted to become and took steps to get there. Years later, I am confident to share some tips with you. This is just advice though and what works for myself. I cannot be held liable for anything that does not work for you. Everyone's skin is different. I do believe however, that a bit of guidance is beneficial to all if shared.

How I saved my face:
- Water
The Institute of Medicine recommends that men have 3 litres (13 cups) and women have 2.2 litres (9 cups) a day. Personally, I usually get around 6 cups of water a day. It is important not just to drink when you are thirsty as by the time you are thirsty you are already dehydrated and the thirst that you feel is your body's way of warning you. Moisture is a key factor in good skin and so your water intake is crucial.

- Exercise
30 minutes of daily exercise is recommended for health reasons but I think this is easy to surpass due to the fact that most of your day to day tasks can be intergrated into a mini workout. Some of my personal favourites are carrying heavy shopping bags, excessive dancing on nights out and running for the bus. When blood is pumped faster around the body, new cells can be produced at an accelerated pace.

- Beware fast food, sweets and dodgy drinks
When faced with temptation, ask yourself 'Will eating or drinking this make me happy enough to handle the negative results?' or moreover, 'Is a moment of tiny delight worth it?'. The occasional treat is good but a blanket of treats to mask your feelings will only make things worse. Excessive sugars and ingredients found in fast food can hinder the development of your facial skin and often lead to spots.

- The regime: Face scrub/witch hazel/face cream + steam once a week
I use St Ives Face Scrub because it is cheap, gentle and suitable for all skin types. From my experience products targeted at teenage acne can in fact antagonise your skin, serving as a catalyst for future flare ups when you stop using the product. A good facial scrub should be applied gently in a circular massaging motion bringing blood cells to the surface of the skin and opening your pores. I then cleanse using a cheap no brand witch hazel on a cotton pad which acts as an astringent to tighten the surface of the skin. Finally I use Fashion Fair Vantex Skin Toning Face Cream which is hydroquinone free. This serves to add moisture and close your pores and should also be applied in a circular massaging motion. Any excess moisture should be wiped away using a cotton pad. If you have a big event coming up and you would like to take that extra step I recommend steaming your face for 5-10 minutes once week. This also does not have to be expensive. You can simply fill a large basin with boiling hot water, place your head above and cover with a towel. This should take place at the start of this regime. In addition to this, every two months I do facial excerises in front of a mirror which is really strange.

- Remember to rest
Sleep time is paramount. Your face will not recover if it is not rested so it is quintessential that you get your beauty sleep. Aim for 6-8 hours a night if you can. If this is not possible, say for example because of work or a party, my advice would be to catch up on a weekly basis. Sounds obvious, but you would surprised the amount of people who do not get enough sleep and then wonder why the quality of their skin is deteriorating.

Love your face for it is yours. Make of it what you will; it's never too late.

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Rihanna - You Da One

Very much a promo for her new album Talk That Talk, Rihanna's latest music video 'You Da One' plays on her wild side as a seductress and debuts her latest blonde additions. The black and white shots complement her features but as a whole this is a far cry away from 'We Found Love'. Radio friendly with the omission of the n-bomb and enough to get the girls and guys fired up. The synonymity of the graphics used here and in her current advertisements do make it a tad obvious that the primary objective here is for album sales.

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Willow featuring Nicki Minaj - Fireball

As far as cool kids go, Willow and Jaden Smith top the list. The Smith family are incredible. Will's Wisdom still continues to inspire and was here at the very beginning of Jskychat. The brand new Willow Smith single for 'Fireball' has not long gone viral and features a guest appearance from Nicki Minaj. Very cute.

The Story of Saturday Night: Gary Lucy Grafts + The Man Who Invented Donkey Kong!

I was running late. I had just watched The X Factor final and fallen on my arse. Well, I say 'fallen'....what I mean is I dropped, skidded and barrell rolled a couple of times on black ice. Cracking way to start a night out. Stellar performance Jsky. What is it with falling over in public? No matter how much pain you are in you will always shoot straight back up and try and act like nothing happened. My hands were bright red. I'd earned my first drink.

I limped over to Livingroom. It was extremely over-crowded, and there were a lot of guys trying to argue their way into the premises. One of the doormen recognised me instantly and let me cut in. Because I'm always rushing to get out on time I never really get to spend that much time on my outfit anymore. I gauge my outfits upon reaction. So far so good.

I was meeting my girl Sarah Lawrence. She was accompanied by Gary Lucy and couple of other friends. He seemed fascinated by me. I couldn't quite tell if he was taking the mic or just wasted. From Livingroom we were chauffeured to Panacea. I later learned that the gentleman sat next to me en route was responsible for inventing the first ever Donkey Kong and Goldeneye video games. I was well impressed.

Panacea was a lot of fun. Our table was complete with one of those ginormous man-sized bottles of Belvedere Vodka. There was only one way this night was going to end; the same way it started...with me on my arse! I bumped into my old friend from University Leon Doyle who joined us for drinks. This was the first time we'd caught up since his recent appearance on BBC's The Apprentice. He was still very much the same guy I remembered.

Midnight had passed us; Bijou time! Gary Lucy and I in our drunken state decided to amuse ourselves and make somewhat of an entrance. Inwards we waltzed, one arm linked, the other on each others bum. The crowd parted like the Red Sea, frozen expression and bewilderment in their eyes. 'What the hell is Jay doing!?', I relished the reaction. It was banter for the morning after. I did not expect this to be followed up by a cheeky snog and a bite on the cheek in VIP. Gary Lucy you crazy mofo. This did not stop the ladies from coming over and flirting though. It was like they were gaming for a ménage. I'm far too innocent for all of this, and was way too much under the influence of alcohol. I kindly bypassed the offers of Shisha. 'I'll stick to my mints', I thought. Taxi-time! I woke up the next morning fully clothed in bed feeling like I had been slapped by the hangover tree. My hands as red as my eyes, mints scattered everywhere!

NEW VIDEO ALERT! SB.TV - Cher Lloyd - Dub on the Track Ft. Mic Righteous, Dot Rotten & Ghetts [Music Video]

Cher Lloyd is Marmite. She stands out. She is interesting. This is not her next single. This promo for her UK urban collaborative synthesis is smart, Radio 1Xtra friendly and a long shot away from her pop debut. See what you make of it.

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Will.I.Am - T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever) ft. Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez

Big budget, over the top ridiculousness. A delectable audio/visual vest fest for mass consumption that will be enjoyed until it runs out of gas. Cool but short lived at best. TV and radio will eat this up and I will enjoy it on a night out. I'll wait for the remix.

The Daily Rat Race

A rat race is for rats. We're not rats. We're human beings. Reject the insidious pressures in society that would blunt your critical faculties to all that is happening around you, that would caution silence in the face of injustice lest you jeopardise your chances of promotion and self-advancement. This is how it starts, and before you know where you are, you’re a fully paid-up member of the rat-pack. The price is too high. It entails the loss of your dignity and human spirit. Or as Christ put it, “What doth it profit a man if he gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his soul?" - Jimmy Reid

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Lady Gaga - Marry The Night (Full Version)

I never fully understood this song, but the more you discover about it the more connected to it you become. This record is about embracing whatever obstacles you have to face and not allowing them to stop you. By marrying your weakness you can be stronger. Lady Gaga wrote the lyrics to this when she was dropped from her record label after first getting signed years ago. Now she uses it to empower others with a video that is just as dramatic and over the top as we have come to expect from her. Cereal anybody?

The Story of Saturday Night: Jsky & Trevor Nelson In The Mix + Ballers Everywhere!

I love my Saturday nights; the pinnacle of any week, and the talking point of the next. I love the trail of possibilities that are opened, people watching and banter in action. The flirting, the jokes and the chance to whack out some shapes on the dancefloor. I love it all.

Last Saturday the wannabe wags of the north descended upon the city centre for Manchester United football player Danny Welbeck's birthday party. Also celebrating that night was UK rapper Chipmunk, who was seeing in his 21st birthday at K2 Nightclub. Bijou Club also had their fair share of footballers partying it up with the likes of Jermaine Pennant, Wes Brown, Danny Simpson and youth Manchester United rising star Ezekiel Fryers to name but a few. TOWIE star Mario Falcone was also in town.

I made my way over to Boutique and arrived a little after 11pm. There was a nice amount of people there to begin with, but once I got settled at our table by the DJ booth this soon amassed to a full club. Trevor Nelson arrived fashionably later into the evening and joined our table, at which point it immediately became an agglomeration of Belvedere and Moet (of which we all dipped into congenially).

Trevor Nelson's DJ set was just getting into full swing when Dayid Haye and Rio Ferdinand made their way over to our table. I can remember singing for Rio Ferdinand years ago at an audition for his record label White Chalk. A lot has happened since then. I'm not the same little boy anymore.

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Beyoncé - Dance For You

This was already an incredibly sexy record. The video for 'Dance For You' is a visual fantasy of film noir detective striptease expulsion intensified by the lyrical content. I could eat this video for breakfast; it's delicious. Enjoy!

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Amy Winehouse - Our Day Will Come

The loss of Amy Winehouse is still very much a raw travesty in the hearts of music lovers and mine. I was very much looking forward to her return to form. This new Amy Winehouse release fittingly plays homage to the modern day legend. Her vocals will never tire, and many will aspire to have her edge. Truth be told there is only ever one Amy Winehouse.

Rihanna On Fire With New Record 'Talk That Talk'

Rihanna's latest offering is an absolute delight. Fun, quirky, and filled with excitement. Opening up with her follow-up single to the highly infectious 'We Found Love' is 'You Da One'; a matrimony of jocularity and euphoric gestures of love. In reprisal of her Caribbean roots is the sunshine filled rhythms of 'Watch n' Learn', a record that screams of carnivals and craves to be pumped out of a car stereo. This indeed is a tasty album, wet by the club appetiser 'Where Have You Been' and sweetened by the beguiling exit number 'Farewell'. 'Birthday Cake' is pure filth executed like an audio binge, whereas 'Cockiness (Love It)' takes things up an extra notch. This is an album filled with potential singles. Very, very cool, and Rihanna's Barbadian accent is just as satisfying as ever.

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Kelly Rowland - Down For Whatever

Kelly Rowland fans are definitely being treating ahead of the trend yet again as another new music video has gone viral; this one opening with Kelly Rowland dancing in the buff! This record was always going to be a single and the video is everything a Kelly Rowland club record should be: slick editing; flashing lights and her trademark guy dancers. She even flashes a bit of bum cheek at the end, which might I add is a total peach! I'm now starting to think Kelly Rowland will perform a medley on a future UK X Factor Results Show.

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Rihanna ft Calvin Harris - We Found Love

Rihanna's latest video plays out like an episode of Skins. This is not for kids, and it all seems a little too close to reality with an apparent intentional Chris Brown-a-like male protagonist. "We found love in a hopeless place....", this is an unhealthy, obsessive, self serving, lustful, hedonistic, pulsating and narcotic, destructive, passionate affair which can only end one way.

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Nicole Scherzinger – Try With Me

Another female X Factor judge preparing to annihilate the pop charts is the relentless Nicole Scherzinger. Her latest number is an uplifting dance ballad complete with a nature filled beauty video. Whether you get the whole magic of Nicole Scherzinger or not, there's no denying that this record denotes she has definitely got one almighty set of lungs on her.

Occupy Wall Street Shocking Footage

To those of you who are still very much unaware of what is taking place around the world, spare a moment to watch the following.

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Beyoncé - Love On Top

Not your typical Beyoncé video, but a nice throwback nonetheless. Bey plays homage to traditional performers who paved the way for artists such as herself in this simple but quaint accompaniment. This follows on from her recent pregnancy exposé MTV Music Awards performance and the controversy surrounding the alleged padding to make her baby bump look bigger. Nice song. Nice video. No Sasha Fierce though.

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Kelly Rowland - Lay It On Me ft. Big Sean

Kelly Rowland is soaring right about now, winning over hearts in the UK with her genuinity, energy and work ethics on the UK series of The X Factor. This comes with her stella acumen and her ability to still feel very much like a new artist despite having over a decade of hits under her belt. I never considered this track to be a single, but having said that I can now see how well it works as a stand out track. The video is pretty much a half naked Kelly Rowland, half naked men and a naked elephant (not that elephants should ever wear clothes). US rapper Big Sean also lends his talent opening doors for him both in the States and in the UK. I wonder if Kelly will be performing this on The X Factor....?

Last Sunday, Umar and Adam Kamani of Boohoo.com put on a casting day unlike no other for a 'Real Woman' to become a new model. Boohoo.com has grown substantially and wanted to give a unique opportunity for a special somebody to be become represented. I arrived early but the queue was already all the way down the street. Auditionees were treated to a team of make-up artists, a test shoot and an airbrushed photo. Following this, they were presented with a catwalk in which to impress a celebrity panel of judges including Umar and Adam Kamani, Ryan Thomas, Michelle Keegan, Jodie Connor of Roll Deep and current X Factor sensation Misha Bryan. There was a short interval period in which Jodie Connor performed her chart successes including 'Real Good Time' alongside a performance by newcomer Rio. Myself (Jsky) and Ryan Thomas also did a bit of presenting and gave away 8 lots of £25 Boohoo.com gift vouchers to several lucky ladies!

After the event the judging panel and I were driven down to Rosso Restaurant, where we met up with Stuart Pilkington and Scott Thomas. The food we were presented with tasted amazing, and was accompanied by an incredible jazz singer. We left Rosso Restaurant and headed over to Livingroom to get some more drinks in preparation for Candypants. There I bumped into Amy Ramsey who was out with Callum Best in celebration for her birthday. Manchester designer Nadine Merabi was also in town sporting another of her killer dresses.

After some heavy conversation from the boys (Ryan Thomas, Scott Thomas, Umar Kamani, Adam Kamani, David Darwood) and some heavy shapes on the dancefloor with Jodie Connor, we headed over to The Circle Club for Candypants. It was great to see Nicole Bailey doing her thing with the other Candypants girls. We didn't stay for very long though; it had been a really long day! Upon leaving the club I ran into Rhian Sugden, Ally Wood and Geordie Shore's Gaz. I asked him how his parsnip was doing or something cringe like that. It was definitely time for me to call it a night.

Louise Cliffe/Lucien Laviscount Images Taken....Jsky Fights Back!

Those of you following me on Twitter would have heard that several of my images of Celebrity Big Brother 2011 contestant Lucien Laviscount and current Big Brother 2011 contestant Louise Cliffe have been taken without consent or permission resulting in numerous front page headlining articles in various press. I have chased and come to an agreement with one newspaper and one magazine so far. If you see any images of Lucien Laviscount and Louise Cliffe similar to the below please advise me on Twitter @jskychat as they are more than likely to have come from the above video which was originally uploaded in support of Louise Cliffe to keep her trending worldwide.

Louise Cliffe is a good friend of mine and I have hung out with Lucien on several occassions on nights out in the past. The allegations made regarding this video are completely false. Please continue to support Louise Cliffe throughout her time in Big Brother and when she gets out.

The Story of Saturday Night: The Boy With The Big Earring + TOWIE Chloe Sims Golden Wonder

Pictures and video by Jskyphotography

Last Saturday, like most Saturday nights out on 'The Manchester Scene', started off at Livingroom. Livingroom has become like the melting pot for promotors to begin their night in a last ditch attempt to sell their brand ethos. I made my way to the back and was pleasantly welcomed by Sarah Lawrence and Craig Bramall of Mode Events who got the Grey Goose in. After a quick hello to Geek party organiser Bradley Howard, Amy Ramsey made her way towards our table with MTV presenter/Kiss DJ Melvin Odoom. He was in town for a family Christening and Amy Ramsey was to be something of a tour guide for his night out in Manchester. Having met Melvin last year at a Swankys party I reminded him that there was another Swankys party coming up next month for Halloween. I text Sophie Reade to see how far she was. She too was inside, so I caught up with her whilst finishing off one almighty cocktail.

I arrived at Boutique Nightclub a little bit early. Upon arrival I was promptly escorted to the VIP table cordoned off for InkedUp PR/Chloe Sims and friends. InkedUp PR has somewhat crept up out of nowhere, but has quickly established itself as the reputable booking agency for TV personalities and popular music artists. There's even a rumour of Rihanna coming out in Manchester later this year with them.

Chloe Sims entered the club in a blaze of excitement from onlookers sporting a wonderfully golden garment, accompanied by InkedUp PR's main man himself, Alex 'Shaq' Shafiq and Boohoo.com's owners Umar and Adam Kamani. The boys got the drinks in, and the party began to accelerate. Several Sambuca's, glasses of Moet and the odd Grey Goose later a very plastered Jsky and Chloe Sims made their way over to Bijou Club with the boys. It was late, but the VIP area in there was still going strong. It was great to catch up with Chris Moore, Nicole Bailey, Sara Beverly Jones, Ana Tanaka and Wayne Lineker. I did get a lot of attention for wearing such an over-the-top earring though. I have to thank Sophia Makuza for making it. It was adapted from a dreamcatcher and I think it looks really cool.

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Jennifer Lopez - Papi

The new J Lo video is crazy, and definitely cost a pretty penny or two! This has clearly been shot with the intention of promoting Jennifer Lopez as intensely desirable in as humble a manner as possible (which she executes beautifully). As a woman she is beautiful, powerful and rich. Her character in this video however is that of an Alice and Wonderland type; an ordinary girl who accepts an extraordinarily magically gift. The clumsy, Jackie Chan-esque choreography is just that. However, what I do admire is the fact that J Lo has stayed true to her latin roots, and is still very much 'Jenny from the block'.

The Endz....kicks off tomorrow night on Sky Channel 219

Ex-army lad Chris Kenna had a vision to create a TV drama that portrayed the gritty street life that is lived in many parts of Manchester. The journey from script through to casting and filming has been a long one, but finally the show is in fruition airing on Sky Channel 219 at 9pm tomorrow night.
